Candragonart

Welcome to my website.

I've been drawing dragons for as long as I can remember. I've always been fascinated by them and their various mythologies. To me dragons are beautiful terrifying monsters and that's how I try to portray them. Over the years I've developed my own design for them based on the western type that uses wings along with four limbs. I used horses, the human form, lizards and Giger's monster from the original 1979 film, Alien, for inspiration and came up with something that works for me. I like to sketch them out first using pencil or pen, for anatomy and composition, before working them up onto large scale canvas or board. At that point, I'll work out the colour scheme and paint the image using acrylics which I find the best medium for blending and working quickly.

I also work as an illustrator and have had the opportunity to create some interesting pieces for magazines like Murky Depths, Dark Tales and Morpheus Tales. The images I create are very much in the horror, science fiction and fantasy genres. I work mostly in pen and ink  for black and white interior illustrations and gouache or acrylic for full colour cover art. And I prefer traditional methods to digital. Guess I'm just a fan of the smell and feel of paint and paper in the morning.

I'm also open to any enquiries about tattoo designs. These are mostly dragons, created using a slightly more stylised version of the dragons I paint, though I will happily consider other subjects if the idea is a strong one.
